"Our concept is to take traditional OT or PT therapy out of the office and into a gymnastics center so the kids have a blast and dont know its therapy" says Rhonda Penzell, CEO of A Big Blast Project. A Big Blast Project is a not for profit organization that provides gymnastics therapy programs for children with special needs. Once the muscles develop memory, it becomes easier to learn the everyday tasks most people take for granted, like taking our clothes off. "The goals for this kind of therapy are to help develop muscle tone, core strength, spatial awareness, coordination and confidence, all while having a blast" says Penzell. We work with children age 2+, and the earlier they start gymnastics therapy, the better....
The North Essex Camp Fund is affiliated with several day camps and also works to send children with special needs to appropriate camps. "Camperships" are provided based on the family's circumstances and the specific camp to be attended.
That camp will take place July 26-30. Therapeutic Adventure Camp of Orange, or TACO, allows children with special needs to experience a camp atmosphere while enjoying arts, crafts, therapeutic horseback riding and more. This year, camp will be held
There's definitely a camp for every kid's interest. There are even some wonderful special needs camps, just search online or ask your pediatrician for recommendations. Trust - did I feel comfortable leaving my child with the counselors?

A: Get in touch with the nearest local Autism Organizations or the nearest local Autism Support groups and ask them if they know about any camps for children with Autism in your local area.
Special needs camp prices?

I have 2 children w/special needs. Their teachers say it's very important for them to be in something, camp whatever over the summer so that there's no regression. So far, the best I can find is about $2000 per kid for 2 weeks. So I'd be paying $4000
A: This is what EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR is for--this should be in the IEPs if teh school says that are at risk for regressing
Extended school year can include a camp as long as it is relevant to the IEP (Socail, functional skills)
