Though I've adopted before and been through the adoption process to adopt our sons, it was a foster care adoption , adopting foster children who were already n our home. So, we started the adoption home study process and have been working with a social worker who has been in our home, interviewed us, gathered reference letters and then created a several page report reflecting our family's strengths and needs. It is a different feeling to go through the adoption home study process for unidentified children. I think we have been through the final edits and the report will be ready soon - then we will begin the next phase of the adoption process - waiting to be matched. What is or was the worst part of the adoption process for you and your family. Over the past several months our family has been contemplating adopting again. My husband and I are has been through our interview as well, now we be finger printed which will be $120. I wish the agency could have a special place set aside......

A: Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Washington laws, but have you spoken with an adoption agency yet? Most reputable agencies will tell you upfront if they have any concerns that you will not pass a home study or meet the requirements for adoption.

What exactly does a homestudy for adoption involve?
Do they ask you questions, inspect your home or both?
Also, does it not defeat the purpose oof them being there as if they just watch you all day(is that what they do)
A: My last one lasted two days for about 3 hours each. They came the first day and sat at the table talking with my wife and I. She went over the answers we had provided to a long questionnaire (about 24 pages in a booklet). They had sent us the booklet

Who did you use? Friends? Family? Employers/ Co workers? How many did you have? How many were required by the state/ agency?
A: We did several that included family, family friends, coworkers and a clergy.
